Squaw Valley Issues Statement Concerning Water Safety

Recently, Squaw Valley issued an official statement concerning the coliform and E.coli that was found in the upper mountain region of the resort. The issue was reported on November 8 to the Placer County Department of Environmental Health.

 

The condition of the water has improved since then and three of the four upper mountain wells are now free of E.coli and have low coliform levels.

 

All upper mountain restaurants are closed and skiers have been informed not to drink the water until the water is clean. There have been no reported health issues and topo to bottom skiing is still permitted at the resort.

 

Public Relations Director Liesl Kenney also issued an official statement about the condition of the water at Squaw Valley. She states that a severe rain storm took place in the area in October, and the storm affected several areas in Placer County. The weather caused the water system to be affected in the High Camp and Gold Coast areas of Squaw Valley, and the contamination issue was limited to these areas. Contaminated water was never made available to the public.

 

After routine testing, Squaw Valley contacted Placer County Environmental Health and Squaw Valley Public Service District right away. The resort immediately moved to resolve the issue, and other water safety experts were contacted as well. Steps are continually being taken to ensure that the water is safe and free of contaminants. Water usage at Gold Coast and High Camp will not resume until Squaw Valley is sure that the issue is resolved.
